Week 10 - Minor Update

Just a small update for the holiday season:
  • The cabinets are in, but not yet installed.
  • The heat is now on inside the house.
  • The garage door is now installed.
  • We went and picked out the carpet for the upstairs and the laminate wood for the 1st floor.*
* The tile for the upstairs bathroom is still up in the air.

Ho Ho Ho,
Joey

Week 8 - No More Echoes..

Rolled up on the house this Saturday:

- What's this?

- Yay! The siding is in!

- Insulation and drywall is done! Garage is looking spiffy.

- Staircase to upstairs and basement, complete with pole and accent.

- Was wondering why it wasn't so cold in the house. Oh wait, insulation and walls help. Too bad this thing wasn't on.

- Bay window from the living room, arches are looking pretty.

- Master bedroom looking good. I need to ask Billy what size ladder I need to be able to change the light bulbs. I believe the ceiling at its highest is 12 feet.

- Shower is all drywalled in. The shower is big enough for two people.

- Master bathroom; see the double outlet on the wall across from the jacuzzi tub? That's where the white 19-inch 720p LCD Samsung is going. Stephanie can enjoy TV in the tub, and I'll have my 46-inch 1080p LCD Samsung downstairs.

- Staircase from the second floor to go downstairs.

- Kitchen area; all of the really big black holes are where the recessed lights will be.

- Water heater in the basement... I can deal with this price per year.

- What are these..

- The dual-zone heating/cooling units, it seems. One for first floor and one for second floor.

That's all for now!

Week 7 - Hot and Cold

Having trouble understanding the title this time around? Let me explain. Lately, Steph and I have been buying lots of goodies for the house as if we have money burning in our pockets. Unfortunately, it's starting to get chilly out.

Before Black Friday, we like everyone else were hunting for good buys. Sure enough, we bought something nice and early in the morning:

- Washer, Dryer, Pedestals, and a Warranty. :)

This week, we went out after looking through the newspapers and found this wonderful deal:

- This sectional can sit 6-7 comfortably for $800. Luckily or unlucky for us, the sale ended tomorrow, so it wasn't an impulse buy. :) The ottoman was another $200 on sale as well. Fun fun fun! The actual couch for sale can be found here and the ottoman here.

Enough of the stuff going in the house... show us the actual house!

Ok. But first, a little humor from our builder:

- Was waiting for us this morning. Glad to see I'm 'in shape'.

- Noticed that the windows have been open in the house. The reason why is because the local birds seem to think that our house is a great place to hang out. Unfortunately, they don't like brand new, clean, and closed windows. This was apparent when I visited the house and kept hearing thumps upstairs and watching birds hurt themselves.

- I don't know why, but this picture scares me a bit. Oh noes!

- The arches are starting to take shape. This one is in the kitchen that leads into the dining room.

- The other arch leading into the dining room from the living room.

- Notice the insulation? We did too when we stopped in today. No more echoes in the house, but it was a bit warmer. :)

- Washer/dryer plugs.

Remember that last blog post I mentioned sheetrock? Guess what.

- Sheetrock for the bathroom. Notice the anti-mold sheets.

- Sheetrock in the 'office' from the 'spare bedroom'. There is Sheetrock EVERYWHERE, so I'm looking forward to the coming week.

- Take a wild guess what this is for and where it goes. Hint: the answer is somewhere on this blog.

Well, that's it for the updates for now. Next blog update should include some wall formation. See you then!

- Joey

Week 7 - Inspection Time

Not much of a change has happened over the last few days. Talked to Billy and he told me that the inspections are going through right now, and we should start hanging sheetrock soon.

Of course, yours truly will be johnny on the spot when the walls start taking shape.

Week 5 - Wires, Wires, Everywhere!

Sorry, I've been a bit behind on the blog, I was born 24 years ago this week, so give me a break.

Billy told us that the electricians would be in now, so I found evidence of their presence, as you'll see below.

- Wire pieces...

- The two lights on the outside of the garage...

- The marking for the outside outlet near the basement walkout...

- Plugs on the front porch...

- A plug on the outside of the garage...

- and plugs in the garage and one on the ceiling for the garage door opener.

We Need Coffee
On Veteran's Day (I know, I know, it's been awhile since the blog update, I GET IT!), Billy needed us to come down and figure out where to put coaxial cable and telephone jacks. The catch: Be at the house at 7:30am.

- Cable jack on the wall entering the living room, where the wall meets the coat closet.

- Cable and phone jack in the "Office". The UFO-looking icon is where a ceiling fan will be mounted.

- Ceiling fan and cable jack in the "Nursery/Workout Room"

More Spraypaintin' Fun

- No, it's not a basketball-player version of Twister...

- It's places for our recessed lights!

- Hose outlet for the opposite side of the house for the side/frontyard and...

- Another hose bib near the kitchen for the backyard. The "METER" is where the electric meter will go. Billy also mentioned that this is where the generator plug will be.

That's all for now!

- Joey

Week 5 - What A Nice Day

Well, here's the house as of this past Sunday:

- Shingles are all done, siding is yet to be put up.

Talked to Billy, the trades are still in, and the electrician should be in this week.

- Framing for the basement is all done. The basement will be unfinished, so this is the final status of the basement (as far as I know) minus the drywall. The door is so that the stairway looks decent instead of a walkway downstairs to a unfinished basement.

- YAY! Jacuzzi tub!

- 10 jets?! Good grief, I guess I'll never see Stephanie again. Oh well, more time in the living room for me! :)

- Master bedroom stand-up shower. Looks like it'll be big enough for me. :)

- Spare bathroom upstairs.

- It's hard to see, but the master closet has swing-on doors that open to the crawlspaces / aka "Timeout Room".

- Joey's vanity; 36 inch vanity, 12 inches for pull-out drawers.

- Stephanie's vanity; 30-inch vanity, 36-inch make-up drawer, and the extra space is pull-out drawers.

- House is looking good! Can't wait to see the siding next!

Haven't posted a video in a while, but I shot one for the kitchen layout, take a look:

  • Camera starts out at the back of the kitchen near the double doors.
  • DB16 - 16 inches of space, I believe it is for drawer/cabinet space.
  • DW - Dish washer
  • SB36 - 36 inches of space, I think it's the "sink base"
  • Lazy - Lazy Susan; A2442 and W1242 - not sure..
  • Range - Microwave area above the oven/range
  • B15 - another 15 inches for cabinet space
Next time on ICanHasAHouse, I'll try and snap a few pics of the location of the recessed lights and the different jacks for cable, phone, and power and the outside locations of the hose locations and the power generator/electric meter.
