**Have no Internet at home, otherwise this post would be full of movies and pictures.
Saturday, Day 1:
Started bright and early at 7am as planned. We all started loading things into a van at Stephanie's house. Luckily enough, we had enough people to gather everything in one trip! Yay!
After unloading everything at the house, Steph's mom and my aunt went to pick up the furniture from Value City that we'd bought a few months back. (Look earlier in the blog -->) while the rest of us moved on to my sister's home (where we were currently living) and loaded up there and then dropped everything off. Last trip was to my parent's house loading and unloading. We finally got everything in the house, including the sofa and ottoman.
The only things that got straightened up that night was the entertainment center and the master bed. Needlesstosay, I thought we had are priorities straight. Entertainment wins over organization any day. :)
Sunday, Day 2:
Comcast came out and told us what we already figured; we are located so far from the main road that they'll need to develop a plan to get a 'tap' near the driveway, then run coax up the hill to the outside of the house. Comcast + plans = still waiting as of this writing (Wednesday afternoon).
Tried to start washing clothes (clothes from my parents house had a musky smell; kinda happens when the bedroom stays dormant for 2+ years) but the front-loading washer on the second stroy of a home, according to the Internet, is a very poor idea. The washer during the spin cycle shook so badly that the entire second floor felt the effects of it. I, after calming down, called Sears to come out and take a look. To cap it all off, it began snowing which is unusual for where we live since the weather forecasters are usually off by miles. Little did we know that they were right on target. By bedtime Sunday night, we had 8 inches of snow. Very rare for this area.
Monday, Day 3:
Woke up and got the obvious message that work (and the entire coutny) was closed. YAY! SNOW DAY! My parent's came over and attempted to drive up the snow-covered driveway. This ultimately ended in laughable failure. Imagine a Ford F-150 drifting and you'd get the idea. Fortunately, we got vegetable soup and pictures/video of the front of our house without going outside.
Tuesday, Day 4:
Took a personal day since my RWD Ford Ranger truck was inside the garage. As I began shoveling out since the snow had finally stopped at a nice round 12 inches, Steph drove her AWD Chevy Equinox down the hill with no problems. Annoyed, I told her to let me dig out the rest of the driveway. She decided to take the keys to my truck and drive out slowly down the hill in the tracks her Equinox made. Pride in tow, I went upstairs and continued unpacking. Later on, my parents got their driveway plowed and decided that she'd give us an early housewarming gift; for our house to get plowed out. So, an F-350 with a snow blade showed up. He learned a different way of plowing that day; drive up as far as possible without drifting and lower the blade and drag the slow down.
Wednesday, Day 5:
Went to work. Our first 'normal' day. Nothing too exciting, but nice to be able to start getting back into the swing of things. Stephanie and I both had hard times readjusting (her commute is now a full hour one way and my commute is the same, albeit back roads instead of a speedy highway). Two days off didn't help any either. :p
Thursday, Day 6:
Sears guy came out to look at the washer; said it was balanced and there was nothing more he could do since the innards were fine. So, I called the Sears I bought it and complained only to find out that if I took them back, I'd get it with a 15% restocking fee. Feverish internet searches later, I'm going to order these and see if it makes a difference.
Well, that's about it. Only real problems that we have are a washer with seizure problems and a driveway / slip and slide. Unfortunately, I have around 1/2 hour left for lunch, so back to the ole' grind, but I want to think Steph's parents, my parents, and all of our friends and family who helped us move. It's greatly appreciated.
