Pick A House, Any House...

The next step in our journey toward home ownership and a hefty mortgage was to find a home that we liked. We met with Barbara Hidgon, local Realtor and lucky for us, Stephanie's godmother. :) After deciding on a few basic things, we found a model home that suited us.

Note, these are pictures of the model home, not the final product of what the house will look like. Any deviations from the pictures will be noted.

This is the front of the house. The only changes on the front will be that the garage is a side-loading garage and will fit two cars instead of one. The porch under the window on the first floor is only four feet from wall to 'fence'. In our home, the porch will be six feet instead of door, and a wrap-around porch will allow us to hang a swing to look over the front yard and cornfields below.

This is a picture of the hallway as you enter the front door on your left. The staircase will lead upstairs. The hallway will enter the kitchen area, with a bay door to exit to a deck we'll invest in later on. The door shown leads to the garage.

The living room, where Joey spends most of his time, as it will probably be where the PlayStation3 and the 46-inch flat-screen TV will be. :) The only difference here is that the pillared walls will be removed, a arched wall will be there instead.

The dining room area connects the kitchen via a doorway. The doorway will mirror the wall connecting the dining room and the living room (it will be a arched doorway as well). The window pictured will be replaced with a bay window for viewing the woods outside.

This is a reverse shot from the living room/dining room archway looking back at the front door. The glass contours and the door will be changed and the flooring on the first floor will be laminate wood.

The kitchen is where Steph will be making goodies (I hope) for everyone on Sunday afternoon while football is on (if she lets me). The cabinets will be a different darker color and the appliances shown are not the ones we're buying. Also, a small 2'x4' island will be placed in the 'middle area' near the dishwasher and the oven. Finally, the tile floor will be different then the picture taken.

The master bedroom pictured looks small. That's because it's above the garage. As I said before, the garage will be flipped to it's side rather then the front of the house, and it's twice as big due to the step-up from one car to two. This is just the back wall of the bedroom, right above the garage door.

Master closet; doesn't look big but it is rather large inside. Of course, after Stephanie puts two bedrooms full of clothes into it, I may need to re-locate my own clothes. :)

Hallway upstairs. From left to right: Full bathroom, spare bedroom #1, laundry room, spare bedroom #2, and spare bedroom #3.

From the doorway of one of the spare bedrooms. Double doors on the left open to a closet space, while the door on the right is a smaller coat-closet sized area for space.

Most of the little things (windows, chandeliers, light fixtures, etc.) pictured above will be replaced with different objects/layouts. Unless you've heard from Steph or I or Helen, the rest will be a surprise when the house gets put together. :)

Ok ok, here's one little surprise spoiler: The windows will not be 'grided', they'll be plain so that the windows look more open from the inside.
